XIAMEN, China – In a significant recognition of cross-continental sustainable energy collaboration, the Xiamen ABB Industrial Center Green Microgrid Project, a joint venture between ABB (China) Ltd. and Xiamen Torch New Source Power Technology Co., Ltd., has been selected as one of the first batch of typical Sino-European energy cooperation cases. The announcement was made by the Sino-European Energy Technology Innovation Cooperation Office, underscoring the project's role as an advanced model for the high-quality integration of renewable energy.
This prestigious selection initiative was guided by China's National Energy Administration and jointly launched by the Sino-European Energy Technology Innovation Cooperation Office and the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China. It arrives at a pivotal moment, commemorating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the EU. The program aims to bolster confidence in mutually beneficial energy cooperation, create replicable model projects, and ultimately lead the way in transforming more technological innovations into practical applications. The goal is to showcase win-win partnerships that accelerate the global energy transition and the journey towards carbon neutrality.
The Xiamen ABB Industrial Center, one of ABB Group's largest manufacturing bases globally, serves as the host for this pioneering project. The green microgrid represents a deep integration of ABB's cutting-edge energy management technologies and architecture with the specific development needs of China's new power system. This collaboration has established a successful paradigm of "joint development and shared results," moving beyond a simple corporate sustainability initiative to become a tangible realization of Sino-European green innovation mechanisms.
The project's success has established it as a benchmark for international cooperation. It will now be incorporated into the Sino-European green technology promotion system, serving as a reference pathway for Chinese and foreign enterprises jointly advocating for energy transformation. This status is expected to assist more multinational corporations in achieving green localization within China while simultaneously opening new avenues for Sino-European collaboration in emerging fields such as smart energy, virtual power plants, and carbon management.

The Xiamen ABB Industrial Center is a demonstration base for ABB Group's "Zero Emission Vision." The project features four major applications: a low-carbon park, demand-side autonomous response, 5G smart power distribution, and an AC/DC microgrid demonstration. Utilizing ABB's comprehensive smart energy solution, the microgrid is equipped with AI algorithms for generation and load forecasting, enabling precise and flexible control. This has significantly boosted energy efficiency, resulting in an annual reduction of approximately 13,400 tons of carbon emissions. Looking forward, a second-phase project involving the renovation of carport and rooftop photovoltaic systems is scheduled to commence in the second half of 2025, further solidifying its leadership in sustainable industrial operations.
